The Rose’s event of the year

Martine Rose has been organising 'Harmony Weekends' since 1988. The aim was to foster inter-group friendship and harmony amongst members of the various competing transgender groups around at that time.

Matlock Bath, Derbyshire

Thursday 28th October to Monday 1st November 2010
(Thursday and Sunday nights optional)

Main Events include:

  • HotelFriday night Halloween Party
  • ‘Miss Rose of the Year ’ Parade
  • Fashion Show at Masson Mills
  • Disco Friday and Saturday nights
  • Second quiet bar away from disco
  • Trade stands
  • Sunday Outing to Haddon Hall

This is our third year at this hotel. Situated in the magnificent Peak District, Derbyshire, it’s central location, just 15 miles off junction 28 of the M1, makes it very easy to get to.

The hotel accommodates around 100 guests and has a large function room complete with bar where we will have our main meals, disco, and all our usual functions including the Miss Rose of the Year Parade, all in the same room. There is also a separate lounge with another bar for those who like to escape the disco! A smaller function room will have trade stands during the day as usual.

Plunge PoolMatlock Bath GardensOther facilities include an indoor plunge pool fed by naturally warm mineral spring water, a sauna and tennis courts. There is also an Olympic size outdoor swimming pool but this will be closed at the time of year we will be there.

Within a very short distance from the hotel are beautiful walks along the banks of the River Derwent and the attractive village of Matlock Bath itself is close by. A couple of miles down the road is the town of Matlock.

Events:

Halloween Party Friday evening:
We will return to the ever-popular Halloween theme for our Friday night party this year.

Fashion Show at Masson Mills Saturday Afternoon:
A fashion show in the tea rooms at Masson Mills (see below) with volunteers modeling casual, smart/casual and evening dresses from the fashion stores in the mill. The show will also be open to other shoppers at the mill. Please contact us if you would like to be a model (even if you are not staying with us at the hotel for the weekend) but you will be required to visit the mills at least 2 weeks before the event to try on outfits.

Miss Rose of the Year Parade Saturday Night:
Anyone is welcome to enter in the parade with prizes for Miss Rose 2009, a runner up and best costume.

Coach Outing to Haddon Hall on Sunday:
Haddon Hall is a fortified medieval manor house dating from the 12th Century. This remarkable old house is surrounded by terraced Elizabethan gardens and is set amongst the rolling countryside of the Peak District National Park. Haddon has featured in many films and TV programs including, most recently the film, Pride and Prejudice, and the BBC's 2006 production of Jane Eyre. Some of us will probably be dressed in period costume for the visit but this is, of course, optional. We will take a coach to Haddon Hall which is only about 8 miles from the hotel and the total cost including coach and entrance to Haddon Hall is expected to be £20 (subject to a sufficient number participating). Please see the Haddon Hall website
